ABOUT RETHREAD DENIM
Rethread Denim aims to repurpose and recycle denim to produce new pieces of artwork that can be sold or used to tell stories. Using different techniques like embroidery and laser etching to give the fabric a new look. Rethread believes in looking after the resources that we already have on the planet, and to allow discarded denim to have a new life and purpose in a creative and unique way.
As well as this, Rethread Denim strives to be a educational stream for sustainability, fast fashion and making a change. Kerry Gibson, textile artist, has also founded Project Fashion Fixed CIC, a local project teaching young people in a creative way and holding an exhibit at the end. Bringing together multiple disciplines including, dance, film, creative writing and geography.
Sustainability and fast fashion is a subject area that is complicated, full of twists and turns. It is a puzzle with every piece interlinking with each other, filled with interesting people and has a journey that takes us around the world. It is also a dark story of destruction, fashion is an industry that is linked to climate change and bad practices that affect people and the planet.

I AM AN ARTIST AND EDUCATOR LIVING AND WORKING IN LINCOLN, UK
I am a classic, ‘returning to the arts when my children have grown up’ story. After raising my two children, I went to study a Masters in Fashion and Textiles at Nottingham Trent University. This led me on a path of not only self-discovery, but also ‘sustainability’ discovery. I have since challenged myself to learn as much about the world of fashion and sustainability as I can, and how this complex, multi layered industry affects people and the planet at every stage. I am not new to the world of fashion and reusing. While my children were growing up, I ran a small but successful e-commerce business for over 15 years selling preloved denim. It was a niche area, that allowed me the freedom to work from home and to care for my children, whilst at the same time fulfilling the creativity I needed.
It is this wonderful journey of discovery, both the good and the bad, that I hope to be able to take other people on, through my work as an artist and educator.
